the lousiana oil leakage, how can we help?

have you heard about what happened in Louisiana?

about 60 miles from Louisiana, there was a big oil leakage, and it happened under water, so now as i type, and as you read this, tons of oil is leaking into our oceans, to be specific, 5,000 barrels of oil a day are leaking into the ocean, do you know how much that is polluting our environment?

my dad and i were talking about it early today, and we got to the point in our conversation that we started to wonder “how could we help?” so this is what we have come up with, we would put it on the blog, and see it you have any ideas, i know it will be slightly hard to help, but there has to be one was we could help, just one way.

we know that they don’t need money, the oil companys are paying for the whole ordeal, and they don’t need volunteers, they have trained people who are helping,

what could we do, as CLC ambassadors, what could we do?

Water Testing Feild Trip

Our class went to Lake Jackson’s Meginnis arm.  We divided into groups and tested the water for nitrate ( mine!), pH, dissolved oxygen and turbitity.  We tested in 3 different locations along Meginnis arm.  Our group ended up not doing the testing because we didn’t have the right little tablet.  We recorded the results in journals.  Some people took videos of what was going on or interviewed people about what they were doing.  Overall, it was really fun!

The Town of the Enviromental Health Department’s Horrors

Well, you may be wondering about the title, but, after you read the following sentences, you’ll understand the title COMPLETELY.

Last week, on Friday, we performed scientific experiments involving what our future would be like with out recycling. Here is what we performed:

  1. We spread torn tissues throughout the town to represent litter that people had thrown carelessly all over the town.
  2. Afterward, we put Kool Aid inthe sewers and pipes to represent the radio active toxic waste that the factory was producing
  3. Then we put sprinkles to represent, umm… waste the animals were producing. (Oh, did I mention there were toy animals? Sorry.)
  4. If it can get any worst, next we put Cocoa Powder to represent dirt that was just scattered around causing mud problems when it rained.
  5. Finally, we put pencil shavings sprinkled  all around to represent litter that the people supposedly through on the ground.

This week we came up with solutions to fix the problems, but that is another story.

    Pollution Experiment

On Friday, in science, we didan pollutionexperiment with a awesomemodel (the one to right). Eachof us hada job, I was a garbageman along withPeter, ourjob was to “make” trash and then spread itall over the model someof the other jobs were – forest, cars, construction, farm, livestock, and factory. When everyone had there jobs finished itwas precipitation time!!! While circled around it, we passed around threespray bottlesand SPRAYED!

As a result, we foundout that ifwe keep pollutingwe will haveto ware suits like this guy!!!
