Our Fundraiser, “Haitian Food for Haitian Lives” Review

Our class (with the co-op of 4th and 8th grades too) performed a great deed on Jan.29th, 2010.

We raised a a fundraiser we did, “Haitian Food for Haitian Lives,” raised $1300+, 100% of which will go to DWB (Doctors Without Boarders) and/or RC (Red Cross).

Thank You, if you attended, if not, well, it wasn’t exactly on national news.

But…

Now it is!

Check it at:

But we couldn’t have done it without 4th and 8th Grades!

Thanks you guys!

Advice to parent

  • If you are a working parent or just someone who needs their sleep, then you will want to have your baby sleeping through the night as soon as possible.

  • Do NOT bite the head off of your baby.

  • Do not let your baby eat TOO much or the baby will get really fat and chubby.

  • Do not eat your child no matter how tasty and juicy they look.

  • When you change their diaper make sure they have not had 5 Hour Energy or Red Bull the second before, or you will have an over exited and squirmy kid on the table while you are trying to change their diaper.

  • If you want quality family time then do not introduce your child to video games. They will be playing 24/7

  • Give the baby warm milk!

  • You will need to by some ear plugs or your ears might get blown out when you are sleeping and the baby is crying/complaining!

Snapshot monday

Picture This:

I am at my house wrestling with Augie trying to steal the football. I am as happy as a pampered pup even though he is beating me I have only won 1 out of 4 times. No one has gotten hurt YET. We were scared to wrestle at first because my dog will usually hurt people and nip when she is wrestling even though we don’t let her play she joins for the excitement. But she was out on a walk.

Japanese Proverbs

This is my class project and we need to write down interesting proverbs from the country that we are doing in class.

Proverbs/Quots from Japan:

Literally: stumbling seven times but recovering eight.

Meaning: perseverance is better than defeat.

Equivalent: perseverance is the key.

Literally: after the rain, earth hardens

Meaning: Adversity builds character. After a storm, things will stand on more solid ground than they did before.

If the father is a frog, the son will be a frog.

Even a sheet of paper has two sides.

A smile is worth a thousand words.

Your smile determines how you see and think about the world around you.

Ones that would not work in our society:

The Sasses go to Colorado

The Sasses hate taking off in an airplane, but love the landing sensation.

When we got off the plane in Colorado I threw up  from all the coke I had on the plane ride; it was awful.

Afterwards, we got on a bus that took us to a rental car agency, ware we got our rental car. We got a white Highlander, which was very shiny.

On the ride to our cabin, the car got all muddy from the dirt road that we had been traveling on. When we got the to the cabin we unpacked and went out for dinner.

When we got to the restaurant we decided to eat outside, and let me tell you it was pretty cold compared to Florida! For dinner I had shrimp with a side order of salad. When the food came out I gobbled my salad down and  I realized that that salad was the best salad I had ever had in my life. When my shrimp came out I almost upchucked the shrimp, it was horrible

. I had to go threw a whole week with a whole bunch of ups and downs. It was crazy!

Florida Map Tips and Tricks

cropped mapBelow is the collected wisdom of the 5th graders, after having spent their 4th grade year constructing an 8′ x 8′ wall map of Florida.  This is the advice they are passing on to current and future 4th graders.

  • Double check with your classmates, ALL the time!
  • Follow directions.
  • Always do “pencil first”!
  • Do not make any mistakes.  (I’m just kidding, but still try not to make any mistakes.)
  • You’re going to be outlining with sharpies, so keep your eyes peeled.
  • KISS (Keep It Simple Sillies)
  • Double check your work!IMG_6098
  • Take your time!
  • Work together.
  • Keep it simple.
  • “Contrast” is very important
  • Make your key in a column of landmarks, not in rows.
  • Make things tights and compact because there is going to be more cool things on the map than you can imagine!
  • When you make multiple copies of one thing, make them consistent.
  • Don’t make anything too wild and crazy with colors and designs (just makes it look complicated).
  • Use straight edges.
  • Make sure the whole map is legible.
  • Make sure the map has the “5 C’s of Keys” (Compactness, Columns, Contrast, Correctness, Consistency)IMG_6094
  • Always make the key too big at the beginning – cutting off is better/easier than adding on.
  • Always capitalize counties, states, cities or any other thing.
  • Always keep track of your thumbtacks. They Hurt!
  • Don’t be afraid to ask a friend about what your making for the Florida map to see if she/he has anything to add or help you with.
  • Making the Florida map is hard, but ALWAYS have fun with everything you’re doing.
  • Ask your teacher how to do a really good job at whatever you’re doing, because the teacher how for you to do your best!
  • KISS (Keep It Simple Sillies – keep it easy to read and to look at)IMG_6103
  • Make sure the colors you use have contrast.
  • Put in effort, take your time and do a quality job.
  • Remember that it will take the whole school year.
  • Find safe ways to get up high.
  • Take your time, because you may be cutting until your hands are numb.
  • Make the key big.
  • Listen to others.
  • Always do pencil first!
  • Get a 2nd opinion before making anything permanent.
  • Have fun and use lots of glue.IMG_3564 copy
  • Do a top knotch job and try your hardest on the area of the map you are working.
  • Remember the 5 C’s of Keys: Consistency, Contrast, Columns, Correctness, Compactness.
  • Use your resources!

Watershed Story 1

Fish

I am so tired of people polluting my water. They are putting all sorts of oil and sludge in the water that I live in! But it doesn’t mater so much, now I am currently living in side a sharks body! With a bunch of other morons, one died from eating litter in the sharks stomach.

Shark

I just digested the fish I caught. They feel very weird, as in they’re  swarming around and eating each other, or I think I just ate to much because I have a stomach ache.

Sad Worker

I hate my job so much!!! It is so hot outside and I want to swim in the lake. Since the lake is full of pollutants,  sharks and exotic animals, I can’t step a foot in the water.

Farmer

I love my job but there are a couple down sides.  First, my cow drank from the stream and now the cow is mutated. Second, all of my crops are dying because they are  not getting healthy water. I’m depressed!

I can’t believe what is happening to my chickens. They are all dying because there is not enough trees, which means my chickens are dying from the lack of oxygen, and my husband he’s so depressed that it’s not even funny.

There is so little trash in the trash cans. Usually there is a ton, but all of  the trash is scattered all over the lake, and landscape. So technically I got the day off.

Car

My owners cant control me because there is to much sludge on the road. My old car friend died two days ago, he crashed into a hill and his owners died and he died as well.

Author : (Peter Sass) All in all, there are lots of problems and they are in need of fix.
