Movie Friday: IMAX: Super Cool: THE FORCES OF NATURE

Today 5th Grade (Us)

Our Class

Today our class (5th Grade), 4th grade, and 8th grade, went to the IMAX to see a 40 min. move called: The Forces of Nature.

It is about how Nature is a force beyond our control. And, as we speak (type and read) scientists are studying volcanos, earthquakes, tornados;etc.

So, although we THINK we fully understand Nature, that is a HUGE understatement.

Snapshot monday

Picture This:

I am at my house wrestling with Augie trying to steal the football. I am as happy as a pampered pup even though he is beating me I have only won 1 out of 4 times. No one has gotten hurt YET. We were scared to wrestle at first because my dog will usually hurt people and nip when she is wrestling even though we don’t let her play she joins for the excitement. But she was out on a walk.

Snapshot Monday

Picture This:

Last weekend I was in the bathroom and it was early morning. The only thing I could do was kneel at the toilet and burp up bits off things that had been in my stomach. I felt horrible and my mouth hated the taste of it. I thought that maybe because I had puked more in bed minutes before this would have been the end of barfing for the day.

About 15 minutes before that , I was in my parents bed, laying in terror, shivering like a dog that had been in the pound surrounded by others that scared it for the whole time it was there and had been suddenly adopted.

Approximately  1 hour and 15 minutes before that, I was sleeping like I normally did and got up to tell my parents I didn’t feel well and I couldn’t breath well.

the alphabet

have you really ever thought about the alphabet?
thought about how -A- could be -J- or -H- could be -D- or anything could be anything ?
or even how just plain letters can spell all these words your reading right now!?!
or how whoever made up the alphabet thought of the alphabet ?
or how peoples thought about words, how to spell them and how pronounce them with only plain letters?

have you ever really thought about…anything?

Wikitravel

While exploring ways to learn about Israel, I came across a website called Wikitravel, the URL is http://wikitravel.org/en/ .    This link will take you to the home page.

To find a specific place, after the    /en/    type in the place you are going WITH the spaces.

Like… http://wikitravel.org/en/israel

Tanzanian Proverbs

Today in class we are looking for proverbs from whatever country we are studying.  There are many idioms and proverbs in African culture. I believe (and research supports this) that these idioms and proverbs were created to teach those who are younger in an simpler yet harder way. Simple because they are straight facts, and more difficult because they have to figure out what the proverbs mean on their own. Idioms and proverbs do not have to change as the society changes, they hold truth and fact over time.

Here are some of my favorite Tanzanian Proverbs:

  1. He who tells the truth, is never wrong.
  2. An empty sack can not stand.
  3. We start as fools and become wise through experience.
  4. The mouth of an elderly man is without teeth, but never without words of wisdom.
  5. To be happy in one’s home is better than being a chief.
  6. The patient person eats ripe fruit.
  7. You will get hurt by talking about people behind their back.
